DIANNE J. MECONIS
Dianne J. Meconis joined Rudloff Wood & Barrows LLP at its
inception. With a wealth of knowledge and experience in complex
insurance coverage issues, Ms. Meconis provides prompt, efficient
and common sense advice to clients on claims involving a broad range
of coverages. She also successfully defends the firm's insurance
clients in coverage and "bad faith" litigation. She has
obtained judgment for carriers short of trial in a wide variety
of cases through strategic use of dispositive motions in federal
and state courts. Her summary judgment successes include proving
that an insurer's good faith attempts to settle multiple claims
under a low limit automobile policy precluded extra-contractual
exposure of well over a million dollars; that a carrier had no duty
to defend a sexual harassment case, and therefore, had no duty to
reimburse the insured for defense costs and settlement of half a
million dollars and that there was no duty to defend a former employee
in an action brought against him by his former employer for misappropriation
of confidential information. She also enjoyed success in the appellate
arena on duty to defend cases and property insurance, business interruption
cases.
Ms. Meconis is a 1985 graduate of the University of California
at San Francisco, Hastings College of Law. She graduated cum
laude and is a member of the Thurston Society and was elected
to the Order of Coif. While at Hastings, she was an extern
to the California Supreme Court. Upon graduation, she took a clerkship
with Chief Magistrate Frederick J. Woelflen of the United States
District Court, Northern District of California. She received her
B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan with
distinction in 1979.
